The Ultimate Mod Canvas: Early 2000s Squier SE Stratocaster

This early-to-mid 2000s Squier SE Stratocaster, manufactured in China, brings classic vintage character combined with a heavy-hitting, player-focused feel. Weighing in at a substantial 3.95 Kg (8.71 lbs), this Agathis or Basswood body resonates with authority before you even plug it in. The Maple neck features a comfortable Medium C profile (20mm at the 1st fret, 23.2mm at the 12th) that fills the hand perfectly, while the Rosewood fretboard provides a smooth, tactile playing surface.

The Modder's Dream Squier SEs are legendary in the guitar community as the ultimate foundation for custom builds. Thanks to its solid weight and excellent neck geometry, this Strat is a premium blank canvas. Play it as-is for killer vintage tones, or drop in your favorite boutique pickups and hardware down the line knowing you have a rock-solid, fully-setup chassis supporting them.

Pro-Level Restoration Aesthetically, this Strat wears its age beautifully, showing off a gorgeous natural cream patina on the pickguard. Despite a few cosmetic marks of its history—including a cosmetic hairline crack at the neck pocket and some overspray at the neck base—the mechanical playing surface is functionally perfect. We have performed a comprehensive fret level, crown, and polish, ensuring choke-free playability from the nut to the bridge.

What Makes This Guitar Special

  • Modern Playability: What truly sets this SE model apart is its modern 12" fretboard radius. Unlike standard vintage-style 9.5" Strats, this flatter radius allows for massive string bending and a faster, more contemporary playing feel.
  • Classic "Quack": The trio of original single-coil pickups read at a highly consistent 5.94kΩ (Neck), 5.92kΩ (Middle), and 5.89kΩ (Bridge). This balanced, vintage-spec output delivers a glassy, articulate response with unmistakable Strat character.
  • Workshop Certified: This guitar has been freshly set up, intonated, and restrung with Ernie Ball Regular strings, so it's studio-ready the second it arrives.

Genre / Artist Context

With its ~5.9kΩ pickup set, this Strat excels in environments requiring clarity, sparkle, and dynamic expression. It is the perfect engine for:

  • The tight, rhythmic funk of Nile Rodgers.
  • The edge-of-breakup Texas blues of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
  • The ambient, glassy cleans of John Frusciante.
